It comes with Yakisoba season packets already in it.
1 small package of Chicken Tenderloins (approx 1 lbs, trimmed, you can also use any other meat or tofu if you want)
Otafuku Yakisoba Sauce (you use the sauce to your liking along with the spice packets)
Sesame Oil
Fresh Ginger Root (4 thick slices cut in halves, so 8 pieces season the dish nicely)
Salad Shrimp, or precooked shrimp
Sea Salt
Black Pepper
Kikkoman Teriyaki Sauce
Fresh or minced garlic (I am lazy and get the big Spice World jars of minced garlic and use a teaspoon)
1 can of Sliced Water Chestnuts
Olive Oil and Sesame Oil (you can use any veg oil)

Fresh Veggies, chopped.
Cabbage
Carrots
Yellow Onion
Carrots
Broccoli

Get out a bowl with warm water and take the noodles out of their packages and add them to the warm water. Break them up gently with your clean hands. Let them soak for a few minutes, then drain the noodles. Set aside noodles until ready for cooking, which will not be until the end of cooking up the dish.

Rinse and drain shrimp and set aside in a bowl. The shrimp will not go in the pan until the end of cooking. Salad shrimp are precooked so you just need to rinse and drain. I usually use about 1/2 cup of salad shrimp.

Cut up your cleaned veggies and place them in a bowl. Keep your cabbage in separate bowl though. Add in Ginger with this bowl of veggies. The ginger flavor will cook into the dish nicely. If you do not have any fresh ginger, you can substitue Ginger Powder. If you want your cabbage crispy, you do not add the cabbage in until the end of cooking the dish. As for the other veggies, I clean them up, cut them and place them in the same bowl and throw them in the pan to cook together after the chicken has been cooked. I like crispy cabbage so that is the last thing that gets added to the dish. Add oil as you will need it in the pan.

Trim up Chicken Tenderloins, place in a bowl and season chicken with a sprinkle of Sea Salt, black pepper and add teaspoon of Teriyaki Sauce, and a squeeze of Yakisoba Sauce and mix it up. Set aside.

Get your wok and coat pan with Olive Oil and Sesame Oil and chopped garlic. I try to go light on the Sesame Oil as to add a light sesame flavor to the noodles. Heat pan on Medium and saute' your chicken. As it is cooking add a little bit more of the Yakisoba or Teriyaki sauce. Once the chicken looks pretty cooked, throw in your veggies on low heat. This will keep your veggies crispy. Cook veggies and chicken for about 2 minutes together. I like my veggies crispy so just a few minutes is all the veggies need. Once that is done, I throw in the drained noodles and I add 1 packet of Yakisoba seasonings from the noodles packs to the noodles. I stir fry the chicken, veggies and noodles with the seasoning and then I add in some of the Yakisoba Sauce to the dish. I keep the heat on low while mixing up noodles, veggies and sauce. My family loves the bottle sauce so we go a little heavy on that. Once that is done, I add in the cabbage, water chestnuts and the salad shrimp at the end of stir frying and mix it up until everything is coated in Yakisoba sauce. I cook on low heat until everything looks cooked and is seasoned to my family's liking.

Finished result.

It has been a long time since I last posted an entry on this fun little bloggy blog that I have. I keep telling myself that it is time to get back to doing some fun crafty things and blog about it, but time seems to elude me! I have been really busy this past year with my kids, their school and just general life craziness. I also had some health issues last year and because of it, I almost closed my bath and body store down. After talking to my amazing customers about a possible closure, they all talked me into keeping my store open, and to be honest, I am glad that they did. Having my store and making bath and body products is really the best thing for me to focus on when not focusing on my kids. It is fun hobby that I find truly rewarding. After a rough year, I decided to really focus on growing my bath and body business this year and to get back to doing what I love, which is making products for my customers.
This year I decided to attempt my hand at Cold Process Soap. It was by a happy accident that these amazing Peppermint Calendula Baby Baff Bars came to be. I was making up a batch of Whipped Diaper Butter to stock in my store and the batch didn't quite turn out so great. It just wasn't fluffy enough and considering that I have never botched up a batch of Whipped Diaper Butter in the past, I was pretty upset that all of those wonderful oils would go to waste. Plus, that was a lot of money that I lost when you really think about it. It takes me about 4 hours to batch up about 70 oz of whipped diaper butter and I felt like I lost all that time that I could not get back. I decided to make a good thing come out of the bad situation. I saved the botched batch of oils in an airtight container, I realized that I only needed a few more items like Safety goggles and gloves to do the Cold Process Soaping stag. Yay, the oils will not be going to waste afterall and I converted the recipe to a Cold Process Soap Recipe and out came these wonderful Peppermint Calendula Baby Baff Bars. I had ordered Lye a long time ago but I have been so busy with other parts of my business that I set the Lye aside until something told me to make some soap from scratch. Well, losing that much in precious oils was my inspiration to get out all of my supplies and try my hand at cold process soap. I plugged in the numbers (ounces) of my oils into the Lye Calculator on Bramble Berry's website, got out all of my soap making supplies, followed a Cold Process Video Tutorial and had a blast making soap the old fashioned way.
The video I followed is this one. It is a wonderful and easy to follow video.

Here is how my first batch turned out (see below). Since then I have made a few Castile Blocks to use in my soap bits batches and will be making lots more Cold Process Soap Bars over he next few weeks. I need to get some more loaf molds and soap cutters. All that I have is a crinkle cutter and I would love to have straight lines in my future soap bars. I am so happy with the bars, and I must say that these Peppermint Baby Baff Bars totally rock. Since making them, I have used the bars habitually to clean and my gosh do they lather nicely and make my skin feel so soft. I absolutely love making Cold Process soap! I can't wait to make my next batch of Baby Baff Bars. It is so much fun making soap from scratch. Plus, I have got to say how awesome these bars are on my skin! I think I mentioned that already though.

It was very tasty.
What you will need:
A Crock Pot
1 cup of water or enough to make about an inch of water in the bottom of the crock pot
2 packets of McCormick Original Buffalo Wing Seasoning Mix
Salt and Pepper to taste and to your liking. 1-2 teaspoons of chopped garlic

Place about 1 inches worth of water in your Crock pot. Mix in Garlic, water and 1 packet of Buffalo Wing Seasonings. Place cleaned up whole chicken in crock pot. Coat whole chicken with 1 packet of Buffalo Wing Seasonings, some salt and some pepper and place lid on crock pot. Cook on high for about 5-6 hours. Make sure throughout the day that there is a little bit of water in crock pot. It helps to keep the chicken moist. We had it in the crock pot for about 6 hours and did not have a dried out chicken. It was very moist.

My family was in love with this and they said the chicken had great flavors. I am thinking that the next time I do this, I will coat the chicken the day before with the seasonings and some salt and pepper. Either way, it was a big hit with the family. We served it with fruit, mashed potatoes and gravy. Oh and my husband added a side of Bleu Cheese dressing to dip his chicken in. He wanted to get the wing/bleu cheese flavor and experience. We have decided to start cooking our whole chickens in the crock pot, from here on out. The chicken stays moist.
Here is the finished chicken.

This has always been one of her favorite lunches. In her lunch is some Mini Bagels with plain Cream Cheese cut in halves, hard boiled egg sliced and placed next to the bagels and for her treat was some fresh strawberries and bananas and apples with lemon juice, and some Cocoa Krispies for her dessert. Ashley loves her Bento Boxes. We need to get back to getting her to take luinches again.

Well, evidently I figured that crafting in my bed was a good idea. It really isn't because it is not comfortable, but I was determined to get my clothes pins covered. Before I got sick, last week I found a tutorial on dyeing up natural wood clothes pins. I dyed them up last week and had them drying over the weekend. They were all dry by last night so I decided to bring them up to my bed, and get my crafting on! I grabbed my supplies (exacto knife, fabric cutting board, Mod Podge, Sponge Brushes, decorative paper and paper plates) got some old towels out, an apron on and started to cut and cover the dyed clothes pins with some of my fun printed paper that I have. I do not recommend crafting in your bed however unless you have the right accessories to do so and good hips that won't hurt sitting in the same position for two hours, heh. I took the appropriate measures to prevent glue from getting on the bed with old towels and a plastic cover. Just trace the pins with your exacto knife cutting out the shape of clothes pins and you will have your paper to cover your pins. Lay a coating of Mod Podge on the top of the clothes pin and lay the paper down. Let dry, then do same for other side. Once both sides were dry, I coated the top of the paper on each side to give it the Lustre effect. Below is what they look like finished.

I use the Beeswax to make Lotion Bars and other bath items for the family to use or to sell in my store. Beeswax is really expensive in the Craft stores and on-line so I thought I would support my daughter's friend and their family (buy local when you can) and get the raw honey and beeswax which I bought for really cheap. I am glad that I did. I found a tutorial on-line on how to clean up the beeswax, so here is my step by step process in cleaning up pure beeswax.

What you will need:
Your unprocessed block of Beeswax, bugs bits, dirt and all
Water
Large Old Cooking pot that you don't care about getting wax in.
Cutting Board
Krinkle Cutter
Plastic Spoon
Rubber Maid Take Alongs (to pour the clean wax in)
Sifter that has tiny holes to catch bug particles in. I bought one at Wal-Mart for almost $3. I got the small sized one with very little holes. Make sure the weaving of the sifter is tight. You can see the sifter that I used below in my pictures.
Double Boiler

First step, get a rather large and inexpensive pot that you won't mind having wax be in. The wax is a bit of a pain to clean up in the pot, but it can be done. Never pour wax or waxy water down the drain as it will block up your drain, so I want to let that be known first. I was given about a 4-5 pound block of beeswax, with bug particles and all and I was determined to at least learn how to clean up the beeswa. I did some research on how to clean it up and through various websites decided to try this method. I actually found this to be fun and plan to get more wax from my daughter's friend's family.

Take your choice cooking pot that you don't mind getting wax in, and fill it halfway with water. Set in your wax block and start simmering your water until it comes to a light boil. Here is what the wax will look like as it melts and I increased and kept it on Medium to Medium High heat.

Here is what it looks like as it starts melting. Some of the bug particles will float to the top as it melts. I got a few paper towels and a plastic spoon and scooped out the big particles as it was metling. The good wax will come to the top and the bug particles will pool down to the bottom, which is also the top of the water, if that makes sense.

Here it looks like getting melted. I used the spoon to poke at the wax and water to see what was left of the big block being melted and scooped out big bug particles while poking it.

Here is the beeswax almost completely melted. Be careful as to not overheat the wax and make it bubble. It can spit and burn you, so if you see it bubble, reduce the temperature a little bit.

Once it was completely melted, and I used a plastic spoon to check this, I turned the stove off and removed it from the heat. I let the block cool about 4-5 hours so that the wax can solidify and then used my Krinkle Cutter to cut out chunks of the wax. It was cooled off, but still soft enough for me to cut the wax blocks out. It looked like this as I was cutting the wax up still in the pot.

So here is what the chunks look like. You can see all the bug bits and sediment fell to the bottom of the wax block.

Here is all the bug sediment cut off of the wax blocks. I plan to keep the yucky bag of wax around to use as fire starter for our fire pits. That way no wax goes to waste.

Here is the second big step to cleaning up the wax. I did this cleaning process over a two day period.
For the second process I used a double boiler. I melted down each block of wax and got out my sifter and plastic Rubbermaid Take Alongs to pour the clean wax in and to store in smaller useable blocks.

Here I am with my daughter pouring the wax in the containers. She was helping me out so I can take a picture of how the wax looks. You can see some of the particles in the sifter.

Here is some of the containers with the cleaned up wax in them. I actually had a lot of fun cleaning up the raw beeswax. Now my beeswax will be easy to pop out of the containers when I am ready to make up more Lotion Bars. I can't wait to use this stuff! I am still cleaning up the pot though. I have been dumping the water and bits of left wax out in the yard/dirt. When the pot is still warm, get some paper towels and wipe the wax out. You can throw those paper towels in your composter (if you have one). :) I hope you enjoyed this little turorial. For the record, I was convinced that there was no way I could clean up that wax. While this was time consuming, I really enjoyed the process of cleaning up Pure Beeswax. Who knew that cleaning beeswax could be so rewarding and fun? Surely not I! Oh and for the record, the honey I got from them is amazing!

Life Is Grandhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10901420067166853072noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7469845295662770963.post-78984595870465841172012-02-28T00:25:00.024-08:002012-03-16T02:51:50.908-07:00Tutorial for making an Origami Covered TinI have been inspired by all sorts of craftiness through Pinterest these days. I have lots of tins laying around the house that I can't seem to part with and decided that since I have a love of Mod Podge and Origami that I could use those items to decorate them. Well, here is my first attempt at it and how it turned out. It was fun to do this project and I am a tin fanatic so this is a great way of making them beautiful!

What you will need:
Tin you want to cover
Origami Paper in the same print (I think I used about 3 sheets total)
Exacto Knife
I used my sewing/craft cutting board to safely cut the paper with the Exacto Knife
Mod Podge
Paper Plate and Foam brush
Small Ruler

I measured my pieces out and began cutting out about 3 pieces of them to go around the side walls. I used a small ruler to work best with the small Origami pieces. The Cutting board ruler was too big.

After getting lots of pieces cut, I began to Mod Podge the area that I would lay the Origami paper down on. I recommend keeping a wet washcloth with you at the table to wipe off the excess Mod Podge off of your fingers. You will use your fingers often to lay down the Origami paper on the tin. You will also Mod Podge the outer layer as well as the inner as you lay your paper down. This is very important.

To get the rounded edges of the lid of the tin to lay down, I would use the Exacto Knife to and split the corners down the middle on the rounded edges, and would lay them down with the Mod Podge on top of each other. It layered really nice, no bulk to the rounded edges. Not sure yet what I am going to do with this one (right now season packets from Ramen noodles are in it), but I am thinking that I might just give it to my daughter. She could put it to good use in her locker at Middle School. I have a bunch of round Christmas tins that are in sad shape, and I would love to give new life to them and Mod Podge the heck out of them all! I think I have about 4 or 5 tins. This might be my new addiction. I know some tins will come in handy at my Craft and Sewing Center that will get set back up this weekend. :) I am excited to get my sewing section back in the house. It has been sadly sitting in the garage since Christmas. I love doing this kind of stuff and it will help me feel very organized in my life and that is so important to me these days. Here is the final product. Let me know what you think and I will do my best to answer any questions.

FYI, you will want to leave a little bit of space at the top of the bottom piece tin to put the lid back on. I had originally papered it to almost the top of the tin, and ended up cutting it off with the Exacto Knife because it was too thick at the top tot get the lid on. The top of the bottom tin went messy when attempting to get the lid on and bunched up so it had to go. The lid refused to go over the top with the paper. I hope that makes sense! I am new to blogging my projects so if I do not make something clear enough then let me know, and I will do my best to clear it up for you.

Life Is Grandhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10901420067166853072noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7469845295662770963.post-85737236798644283902012-02-26T23:23:00.008-08:002012-03-16T02:56:59.533-07:00My attempt at curling my hair with a Sock BunI have amazing hair, that really doesn't like to hold curls. Even with lots of product, it falls flat after a few hours so most of the time I dread doing anything but flat ironing my hair out. Everyone on-line and on Pinterest has been raving about the Sock Bun way of curling your hair so I decided to give it a shot. Last night I washed my hair, squeezed all the excess water out of it and put it up in a ponytail. I then grabbed one of my son's old Babylegs that unravelled and rolled it to the sock bun, put it in my hair, rolled it up and slept with it like that all night. I also left it in most of the day today while I was cleaning. So, here is the results. I like it, but I think next time I need to put the bun higher on top of my head because there is an obvious seperation of where the curl starts on my head! I also have layered hair so that is a bit of a problem for hair like mine.

Here it is in the bun.

The front taken out of the bun. My husband loved how fluffy my hair was. He thought it looked super sexy! These are not the best pics of me, but eh, this is to show folks the result with layered hair that doesn't like to curl.

I definitely love the way the back turned out though.

Tomorrow I will be back with my Origami covered tin and how I covered it. I kept a Christmas tin that some awesome Chocolate Truffles came in. I loved the tin and thought I could do something neat with it so I covered it with Mod Podge and Origami. I will be putting in Spice Packets in the tin for storing in my pantry. I turned out pretty cute. :)

Life Is Grandhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10901420067166853072noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7469845295662770963.post-61772293624087362152012-02-22T21:48:00.001-08:002012-03-16T02:51:21.172-07:00My attempt at Making Beignets from Cafe Du Monde MixI can't remember where I purchased the Cafe Du Monde Beignet Mix, but I think I got it at my local Cost Plus World Market. You can order it on-line at the above link. One of these days I will try to make them from scratch, but decided that until I can get my heiny to Cafe Du Monde in Louisiana, then making their boxed Beignets will just have to do.
Ingredients:

An Electric Skillet is recommended to cook your Beignets. I layered about 1-2 inches of oil and turned up the heat to 370 degrees. It is recommended to use Cottonseed Oil, but I just used Canola.

Follow Instructions on the box.
2 Cups of mix and 7oz of water then mix up with a wooden spoon and in a mixing bowl. I got out my baking stone and lots of flour to roll out my dough. Beware that without flour, your mix will be a sticky mess. Use lots of flour. I rolled the dough out with a rolling pin.

Rolled, then used a roller pin to roll the dough out to 1 1/2 inches thick and cut up into sections.

I got out a plate and picked up each cut Beignet and shook off any excess flour. I placed them on the plate to get them easily into the oil.

Into the oil they went. I used a tong to flip each Beignet. Here is what they look like in the fryer.

I think total cook time was about 15 minutes. To be honest, I was so busy hoping that I didn't screw these up to notice the time. For that I am so sorry. Next time I will make sure that the oil is hot enough, but they still fluffed up pretty good. I used one of those wire cooling cookie sheets to powder sugar them.

Here is all of them sugared.

Close up of the Beignets. My friend inspired me to get storage containers so I bought all of these in the Home Decor section at Kohl's. I even used Kohl's coupons to get them discounted. That is how I like buying stuff, with discounts. Between my husband and I, we have a decent sized closet and too much clothing and various other stuff so it was time to get an organization plan in action. Here is what I did for my top shelving units.

The next thing on my closet organization list is to make Clothing Dividers and organize my shirts/skirts/shoes and dresses with the dividers.

Another angle.

Close up of the tags I ordered off of Etsy. I remembered that I had lots of Clothing Pins in my laundry room so I ordered the tags and labeled the storage units and the contents in it.

We still have lots of closet organization, but it feels good to at least have started on my side of the closet and to have it mostly finished. I hope that the hubby and I can tackle his side of the closet, very soon.

I ordered these super cute Tags from this store called Conversationals.

Next on the closet organization is to get clothing dividers, decorate them and then organize every single piece of clothing in my closet by divider.

Life Is Grandhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10901420067166853072noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7469845295662770963.post-64524534157781826482012-01-17T08:26:00.001-08:002012-03-16T02:52:13.407-07:00Monkey Butt Soap Bits Giveaway!Hello everyone! It was sudden and we miss him so much. We found him in the street of our old house, about 9 years ago. When he and my daughter met, JR was just a baby of about 6 months old and Ashley was barely 3 years old. We were pretty sure that he was someone's pet and they dumped him because they did not want to take care of him. It was instant love at first sight and we kept him as our bun bun and family member and we have loved him dearly for 10 years. The day of his passing, he was eating good and was happy to get his kisses and love from Ashley. She fed him in the morning and later that day he was gone. Even though he was old and it was expected, his death was rather sudden and came out of nowhere. :( It has been a difficult road for both of my kids because they both have been grieving and the mood has been really somber around the house. My heart has ached and has been broken from him passing "The Rainbow Bridge." When he passed away both of our kids were hysterical and it was all that I could do to keep my strength together. Ryan, my husband was out doing some Christmas shopping so I was in charge of what needed to be done until Ryan could meet us at the clinic. I wrapped JR in Roman's, (our 6 year old son's) old robot blanket and me and the kids drove his little body to The Pet Care clinic down the street from our home. Ashley was so brave and held him in her lap on the way to the clinic. This passing away of one of our pet's was new to our kid's so we followed Ashley's lead in what she wanted to do with losing our JR. Ash spent lots of time with JR in the room before giving him over to the Pet Care Clinic for him to get cremated. We picked a pretty box for him and they made an impression of his paw prints for our kids to cherish. It has been a difficult road for both of our kids and their grief over the loss of our sweet JR. Our son Roman has had a lot of days crying and Ashley was sleeping religiously with JR's blanket. This was the first pet that they both lost and we were dreading the day that this would happen. We have been trying to find ways to help their grief by memorials and talking about JR and the funny bunny things he used to do. We have also encouraged the kids to talk about him, cry about him, and snuggle his blanket when needed. It has really seemed to help a lot with both of the kids.

JR, RIP our sweet boy.

JR as a baby.

JR balancing a tiny book on his head.

JR with me while on the computer on our bed.

JR hanging on our bed. One of his favorite things to do was hang out on the bed and snuggle with me or Ashley. I love this picture of JR.

To help with our daughter's grief (she is our eldest and fed him/took care of him daily), we also decided to call The Humane Society to see if we could donate JR's new bag of treats and bag of hay to them. It was a new bag of treats that we had purchased for JR for Christmas. Sadly he passed before Christmas which made Ashley really sad. JR loved dried Banana Chips. They were his favorite. :) When we called The Humane Society to donate his treats, they said that they had one lonely bunny there. I asked a few questions about the rabbit and they told me that she was a Lop. I kind of knew that we were not going to just donate treats and had a feeling that we would be bringing home a bunny to add to our family. When we got there, we saw her and fell in love. She was under a year of age and surrendered because the previous couple was getting divorced and they had "Lily" and her brother. The bunny's brother was just adopted the week before and it was just her left all by her lonesome. She seemed so sad being there and was there for 20 days and had spent the last week all by her lonesome. Long story short, we all fell in love and now our new addition. Her name is Lily, and she is living in our home, being extremely loved and spoiled. She is not quite sure what to make of her new situation though. She has 4 people snuggling her, feeding her goodies and a crazy dog that likes to give her love and kisses. Please meet our Lily. She will never replace JR, but we welcome her into our family with open arms. We have lots of love to give her and look forward to many new memories with her! Oh and she loves that bag of Banana Chips...:) Not only the bag of chips came home. It is funny that we went to donate food and instead we get this awesome bunny that we named Lily and were able to rescue her and give her a new home. I would say that is a very good thing.

One more of Lily. My daughter named her Lily Ann. Isn't she the prettiest little thing? She is less than a year old. She is not so sure what to make of all the love we have all been giving her. We told her to get used to it though!

We will always miss JR, but we are slowly becoming happy again as a family from the loss of our beloved JR. JR is always in our hearts and our memories. He gave us almost 10 wonderful loving years with him! I think he would be happy to know that we are loving another bunny and gave Lily a wonderful new home. She is no longer stuck in at The Humane Society, waiting to get adopted. She is now with us! We are very lucky to have silly Lily around. :)

Life Is Grandhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10901420067166853072noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7469845295662770963.post-11623260364348632992011-12-21T23:58:00.001-08:002012-03-16T02:53:09.802-07:00Body Butter Bars, kind of like Lush.I really love a challenge and I really love making Home-made bath items for my business, family or for my friends. This season I have made some Candy Cane Body Scrubs, Peppmerint Milk Baths and now some Body Butter Bars. My girlfriend recently gave me the rest of her Cocoa Butter and Beeswax from Brambleberry.Com. I decided to make some goodies from it. I also had some Carrier Oils on hand from my business. So here is how I made these body butter bars. Making and molding (solidifying time) took about an hour to make. This amount of oils and wax made 24, 2oz sized bars.

What you will need:
Double Boiler
Kitchen Scale if you have one.
Spatula or Bamboo Stir Sticks
Silicone Soap, Muffin or Candy Molds. Silicone works best because they are easy to pop the bars out of them.
12ozs of Cocoa Butter
6ozs of Calendula Infused Olive Oil (you can just use Olive or Apricot Kernel Oil)
6ozs of Palm Oil
12ozs of Beeswax
Essential Oil or Fragrance Oil. I chose BananaRoma fragrance Oil. It used to be a Lush scent that has since been discontinued. I ordered the Fragrance oil from Ponte Vedra Soap. I also get lots of my soap supplies from there.

Here is everything out on my Butcher Block.

I set the temperature on the stove top always to medium when melting. I combined all oils and stirred mixture on occasion.

Once everything is completely melted, I added in about 3-5 small capfuls of Fragrance Oil.

Once everything was melted, I transferred all the melted waxes and oils into a container with a spout. This made it easier for pouring. I did pour all of the mixture into the molds. Yep, I did make a little bit of a mess.

Here is what they look like all made up. They are very easy to pop out of the molds once hardened up. I let them sit for about 20 minutes before popping them out of molds.

Close up of the bars. Now you can wrap them in tissue paper and give them to friends and family as a little gift.

Here is a few links with variations on the recipe of Lotion Bars.
Smockity Frocks
Our Green Experiments
<a href-"http://www.soapdelinews.com/2009/03/lotion-bar-recipe.html">Soap Deli News
<a href-"http://littlehouseinthesuburbs.com/2008/11/homemade-lotion-bars.html">Little House in the Suburbs

Life Is Grandhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10901420067166853072noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7469845295662770963.post-55177174465360391582011-12-13T21:46:00.002-08:002012-03-16T02:58:37.021-07:00Home-made Gift Giving. Watermelon Candy Cane Sugar ScrubI love to make home-made bath stuff for me and my family. I was inspired to do a variation of this recipe over on the blog, A Pumpkin to Myself. I saw this recipe and knew that I could make this into a Whipped Sugar Scrub. So here is what I did with the recipe and here is what you will need.

INGREDIENTS:
2 Packs 12 count Candy Canes. You can choose any flavor, but I chose to do Watermelon.
Matching Fragrance Oil or Essential Oil (optional) The Candy Canes are fragrant enough once pulverized.
1/3 Cup of Avocado Butter
1/2 Coconut Oil (I used Fractionated Coconut Oil)
1/2 Cup of Palm Oil
3-5 Teaspoons of Olive Oil (you can use any oil but Olive oil is best in my world)
2 Cups of Cornstarch (you can add more if you want to make it fluffier and less greasy).

What you will need
Double Boiler
An amazing blender
Medium sized mixing bowl
Kitchen Aid or Stand Mixer (recommended over hand mixer)
2, 4 or 8oz Jars to store your Sugar Scrub
Address Labels to label your jars.
Spatula

Unwrap all of your Watermelon Candy Canes and place them in your blender. I used all 24 of them and had some Candy Cane Sugar left over to make future batches.

Move the pulverized Candy Canes to a bowl and set aside until they need to be folded into the whipped oils.

Combine all oils above in a double boiler. Low to Heat on Medium heat. I used my Grandpa's old trusty double boiler.

Fill your sink up with Ice and Cold Water. Once all of your oils are melted, pour them into your bowl or Kitchen Aid bowl mixer and place in the sink of ice. Let the mixture set for about 10-15 minutes.

Once your mixture looks like it starts sitting up, add in the Corn Starch. I would slowly add in the corn starch throughout the whole cooling and hardening process. This is what it looked like with 1 cup of Corn Starch and mixed for about 20-25 minutes. If you have a stand mixture, you can just place it on Speed 2-4 and leave it to whip up and walk away to do laundry or other chores that need to be done. Oils will have a yellowish tint to them but will eventually look like white frosting. Here is what they look like while whipping up in the beginning.

After it has whipped for 20 minutes, place the mixture back in the sink of ice and let it sit for another 20 minutes. Take it out when it looks like this.

See, it is getting there. :)
Whip it for another 10-15 minutes with the other cup of Corn Starch. Keep whipping until it looks like the picture below. It will whiten up and look a lot like frosting. You are now ready for your Sugar Canes. Also, if you want your oils to feel less greasy, add in more Corn Starch to your recipe.

Take your bowl of Pulverized Candy, and slowly spoon them in, keeping your mixer on the lowest setting. I actually changed my Kitchen Aid attachment and used the dough hook so that it would fold the candy in. I also would stop the Kitchen Aid Mixer and using a Spatula I would gently fold in the candy. Once I was finished with it, I scooped all of the Scrub into 6, 4oz Jars. I will be making the labels tomorrow, and some more of this in Peppermint Candy Canes. Her is the Scrub in jars.

I hope you enjoyed this tutorial! Also, be aware that this is a slippery scrub for use in the shower, so remind anyone you make this for to be careful while using it in the shower! :) I will be back with a picture of the labels that I made.

Oh and an FYI, this stuff is amazing on the hands and elbows.

Life Is Grandhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10901420067166853072noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7469845295662770963.post-3877515883334658582011-12-08T01:27:00.001-08:002012-03-16T02:58:52.026-07:00New additions to the NMBC TreeI went to the Tai Pan Trading Company the other day and found lots of awesome Christmas decor. This year we decided to finally do our "A Nightmare Before Christmas" themed Christmas tree. Needless to say, we were all very excited to decorate the tree this year. Even my husband was excited to put up the tree, and that is a task that he usually groans at. I found everything to decorate the tree for under $200, and that is including us buying a new White Christmas tree to put all the decorations on. That is actually pretty epic if you ask me. We already had all of the Jack, Sally, Zero and Scary Teddy dolls and some NMBC figurines to help decorate the Christmas tree. We have been collecting those for many years now. In our family, we are huge fans of anything from "A Nightmare Before Christmas."

I had a really difficult time finding the right kind of ornaments in Black for a great price though. What can I say, except that I am lady who loves a deal and is on a tight budget this year! I went to Hobby Lobby last week to get some round glass ornaments for an upcoming craft/paint project, and found lots of black ornaments that were 50% off in price. Total SCORE! I even found a tree topper for the tree and a few neat ornaments that would look fabulous on the Jack Tree. We got the tree up this past weekend and it looks fabulous. I ordered some more NMBC ornaments from The Disney Store and I am just waiting on them to come in the mail. We will finish up the complete look of the tree and to get some great pictures of it posted pretty quick. I will give you all a teaser pic of the tree though!

Here is the lovely Tree Topper and Jack, sitting on the tree! I love the way it looks with Jack hanging out on the top.

Coming up next will be the Swirly Paint Craft Project and more tree pictures. I needed some more colorful ornaments for our Jack Christmas Tree, so I found this tutorial on my favorite hang out these days called Pinterest.

Life Is Grandhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10901420067166853072noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7469845295662770963.post-64481297053070014062011-11-21T14:38:00.003-08:002012-03-16T03:00:02.675-07:00About me!<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 319px; height: 306px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiG3-rem9JWZFnxJ495628Xbjc2PywMJVaZtPt4jRuhStP_X6nJWk2KTdg1kQ40uPuNedTVk2qbYRB_bc7girL5pMeIK398mUG7-kgWABgx0oEQ8otRzOIn1KS1684kTLgpwoy-CiPrHvIg/s320/measanasian.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5677588368821730722" />
Welcome to The Poop Bloggy Blog. I am a 36 (now 37) year old mother named Kim. I am a pretty opinionated person, and don't hesitate to speak my mind. I have a wacky sense of humor and my husband thinks I am a funny lady. I have an on-line soap store called Monkey Butt Designs, and I just love it! I get to be a stay home mom with my kids and run a small business. It doesn't get any better than that. I have two beautiful kids and a wonderful husband that I have shared my life with for last 16 years. I have got to say that my life is pretty good so far! I have been extremely blessed in many areas of my life and will talk about my husband, kids and our 3 awesome pets a lot in this blog.

This blog is going to be a fun outlet for me to share my crafty projects, my business updates, tried recipes, funny ramblings, good deals and all around anything that I think is just awesome! I am also hopelessly addicted to Pinterest so there will be lots of Pinterest related things talked about on this blog. Spread the word. Oh, and I love Zombies! I hope you all will enjoy!

Life Is Grandhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10901420067166853072noreply@blogger.com0
